The Latvian Institute of Humic Substances (LHVI) provides significant help in solving the problems of GHG emissions in agriculture in Latvia

Since 1990 GHG emissions from agriculture in Latvia have increased significantly. How can we help reduce them, achieve their desired yields, reduce GHG emissions and obtain environmentally friendly, economical solutions? It is with such possible solutions that we can present you today! On the other hand, farmers and livestock farmers can achieve a greater effect of nitrogen (N) utilization and protect available nutrient leaching by more than 20%.

GHG emissions from agricultural soils account for a major share, up to 59% of total agricultural sector emissions, while GHG emissions from the digestion process by farmed animals are the second largest source of agricultural emissions. N2O emissions from farmed soils are generally affected by organic soil management, the amount of synthetic fertilizer consumed, as well as sown areas and yields. Conversely, CH4 and N2O emissions from manure management over time are affected by different proportions of manure managed in management systems, which differ between farm animal species.

Can the Latvian Institute of Humic Substances help in this matter and offer a solution? Yes, it really is possible.

How to reduce GHG emissions in the agricultural sector?

  • For 10 years now, LHVI scientists have been working on the development of Latvian peat and sapropel humic substances for agricultural use. With LHVI’s GreenOK brand products, it is possible to achieve the desired yield using less and less fertilizers! How much less? Good question. It is scientifically proven that the use of biologically active humic substances of natural origin can reduce fertilizer doses by 20-30%. You will agree that this is indeed a significant economy and it is important not only for farmers but also for Latvia.
  • In order to increase the natural biological activity of the soil, LHVI is offering farmers this autumn a new product that not only can be used as a crop fertilizer, but also quickly and efficiently processes crop residues. It is recommended to use the product after harvesting to compost straw, crop residues and improve soil before autumn sowing.

GreenOK GREEN BUDDY

Fertilizer GreenOK GREEN BUDDY registered on VAAD 25.06.2019, Reg. Certificate no. C1.02 – 1841 – 19. Liquid nitrogen fertilizer contains total nitrogen (N) 30%, total nitrogen composition – amide nitrogen (N-NH2), nitrate nitrogen (N-NO3), ammonia nitrogen (N-NH4). The fertilizer contains biologically active humic substances and microorganisms.

When dry fertilizers are used, their maximum efficiency is only 40%, 60% remaining in the soil, preventing the development of biological processes in the soil. Liquid fertilizers are already 80% efficient and only 20% (even less) remain in the soil and are not used. Addition of biologically active humic substances significantly reduces losses, increases the efficiency of mineral fertilizers, builds up organic nitrogen in the soil and restores soil humus! Economic Benefit of Using Liquid Nitrogen Fertilizer – 50% savings on (N) costs. The manufacturer recommends using liquid nitrogen fertilizers containing humic substances as early as this autumn for soil improvement and composting of organic matter, straw and other plant residues in the field.

GreenOK FormulaEKO

  • Farmers, Manage Wisely – Using Nutrients in the Soil and Available! GreenOK recommends releasing potassium (K2O) and phosphorus (P2O5) in the soil, preferably by treating the soil 24 hours before sowing with the GreenOK soil improver Formula EKO. The average required dose of soil improvers in loamy soil is 5 L / ha-1. The sapropel product contains live microorganisms that will release potassium and phosphorus and improve soil microflora. Prior to and subsequent soil analyzes conducted by the Institute of Agri-Economic Research Institute’s Priekuli Research Center (AREI PPC) before and after 2018, it was found that using Formula EKO, more than 15% potassium (K2O) and 60% phosphorus (P2O5) were released. The product is offered purified from organic particles and is suitable for professional agricultural sprayers.

BIO composting promoter 5 liters

For more efficient manure management, LHVI offers a solution for manure storage and lagoons – humic concentrate / compost promoter “BIO Kompost” from sapropel.

BIO kompost kompostēšanas veicinātājs 5 litriOne of LHVI’s leading specialists – microbiologist PhD Simona Larsson – has added a variety of bacteria to this product which eliminate the odor of pig and cattle manure storage, significantly reducing nitrogen loss and accelerating the biodegradation of manure. It has been scientifically proven that the addition of certain bacteria to manure significantly reduces the pH of the manure. Lower pH decreases evaporation of NH3 (34.6% -92.4%), odor intensity, volatile fatty acids related to odor intensity (valeric acid) , 12.3% -47.7%, isovaleric, 3.5% -23.8%) and the number of main microorganisms responsible for odor formation.
