The effectiveness of Humate GreenOK winter wheat

In order to increase the yields of the crop, traditionally around the world special attention is paid to nutrition regulation issues. It is therefore necessary to study and develop methods to improve productivity and quality of agricultural products without increasing the rate of fertilizer. One of these techniques is “biological correction” of plant growth, which focused on increasing the yield. To this effect preparation containing humic substances was used.  

Humic substances facilitate the uptake and movement of nutrients within the plants, leading to the optimisation of photosynthesis and plants better are using the fertilizer. Humic substances as the part of the humus is biologically very active and have direct effects on plants and microorganisms in the plant root zone, stimulate similar processes as an organic substance in soil in general. Plants are able to absorb the elements of humic acids groups, thereby saving energy stocks necessary for the synthesis of organic matter. Physiologically active substances stimulating effect is clearly shown in the plant early growth phases in unfavourable meteorological conditions (frost, drought, micronutrient deficiencies, excess soil moisture or excessive dryness). Humic acids and fulvic acids intensifies oxygen uptake in plant, stimulate the formation of the root system, increase the cell-membrane conductance, activates the enzyme, enhances plant breathing, the more intense plant breathing, the more plant is capable of producing more biologically active substances necessary for the human, such as vitamins etc., besides plant itself is healthier. Treating seeds with the solution of humic substances, increases crop resistance against fungal diseases.

As so far in Latvia, in this area, were carried out few researches, agricultural entrepreneurs do not have enough information and advice on the application of humic substances in Latvia, which would provide most economically and environmentally beneficial agricultural products.

The aim of the project – to study the influence of Humate Green OK on the growth, fruitfulness, yield structure and quality of winter wheat, economically fortify reduced agrochemical use, to prevent possible environmental pollution and achieve rational resource and the use of funds on a single crop area and the acquired product unit.

In 2010, the Scientific Institute of Agriculture founded the experimental field to study the effect of Humate Green OK on fruitfulness of winter wheat and the product quality. The experiments were carried out in the poor sod-podzolic sandy soil. The reaction of the soil: pHKCl – 6,0, P2O5 – 262 mg kg-1, K2O – 157 mg kg-1, organic matter content 3.0% and total nitrogen content 0.15%.

They studied the use of Humate Green OK in the tillering phase (in autumn), in spring after wintering in the shooting phase. For the plant treatment was used the working solution of Humate Green OK, where the concentration of humic substances was 0,005% (the norm of working solution of 200 l / ha).

In the experiments were carried out: the tracking the dynamics of plant growth in the shooting phase, in the earing and flowering phase (25 plants measured diagonally in four replications), phenological observations the number of plants per 1 m2, the analysis of the test sheaves, and the chemical analysis of the seeds.

In the seed yield mathematical data processing were used the method of dispersion analysis.

 The results of the experiment

 The results of this experiment showed that the use of humic substances in winter wheat `Bjorka` was effective. The use of Humate Green OK positively influenced the growth of winter wheat plants and the development of root system compared with the control (1, 2 pictures).

Plant growth dynamics showed that plant height increased by 6-12 cm applying Humate Green OK, depending on the phase of development (Table 1).

Treatment of winter wheat crops Humate Green OK positively influenced the increase of the number of productive stems (182 sht./m2) compared with control (140 sht./m2).

The results show that the use of Humate Green OK positively influenced as the ear length, number of grains per ear and weight of 1000 grains (Table 2, picture 3).

Analysing the obtained yield, it may be noted, that the treatment of crops with Humate Green OK significantly increased the yield and amounted up to 0.68 t /ha in comparison with the control.

In the 2010 climatic conditions received results showed that the use of Humate Green Ok in winter wheat in autumn and spring may ensure substantial increase in the yield of tubers.
