Description
Iron(II) sulphate (FeSO₄) is used in the garden sparingly and carefully.
Useful for acidifying soil and controlling moss.
Common uses
For soil
- Lowers pH, acidifying the soil
- Useful in calcareous, alkaline soils
- Helps acid-loving plants such as blueberries and rhododendrons
For lawns
- Against moss
- Fast, visible action
⚠️ For treating iron deficiency in plants, iron chelate is a better choice than FeSO₄.
Use in the garden
To acidify soil
- 30-50 g per 1 m²
- Work into the soil and water
- Apply in spring or autumn
Spraying, only in special cases
- 0.1-0.2% solution
- 10-20 g per 10 L of water
- Only on plants that tolerate it. ⚠️ It may scorch leaves
For lawns, against moss
- 20-30 g per 1 m²
- After 7-10 days, the moss turns black and dies
- Then rake it out
Do not use
❌ In hot, sunny weather
❌ Together with wood ash
❌ Regularly as a fertiliser
Safety ⚠️
- Stains stone, concrete and clothing
- Wear gloves
- Store in a dry place
Short summary
- Iron deficiency → iron chelate
- Soil acidification → FeSO₄
- Moss on lawns → FeSO₄
