Description
A wood ash spreader is a device for distributing wood ash evenly in a garden or farm. It is used mainly to improve soil and deter pests.
What it is used for:
- Liming soil – ash raises soil pH and reduces acidity
- Fertilising – it contains potassium, calcium and phosphorus, but no nitrogen
- Deterring pests – against slugs and ants when dry
Use
- Use only for wood ash
- Spread a thin layer; less, applied regularly, is better
- Do not use around plants that prefer acidic soil, such as blueberries
- After spreading, work the ash into the soil or water it in
Safety
- Avoid inhaling dust; a protective mask is recommended
- Protect your eyes and hands
- Do not use in windy weather
